1- Go into a Starbucks and Dunkin -what looks the same and what looks different from a storelayout? How does the Starbucks experience differ thanDunkin. Also – is the product the same in our opinion?
2- Visit a large foodstore such as ShopRite, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, etc. Look aroundand see the psycho – design of the shelves, location of food items,products in front and back and shelf space of products. Whatpatterns do you see?

- The layout of Starbucks is veryattractive to young people and according to its website it wants tocreate an atmosphere of connecting and socialization.
- It creates a more of loungeatmosphere. Most of the Starbucks have a very big place inside itsstores and it looks very comfortable and feels like sitting andchatting with friends.
- The light is very dim and it makesthe atmosphere very cozy. Dunkin on the other hand is meant forpeople on their way to work or school. It has a very fast pacedenvironment and its stores are extremely small.
- Most of them have only 3 to 4tables. Some of its stores do not have even in a space that a fewpeople can sit. In such stores people can simply go and makeorders.
- Dunkin creates a layout atmospherein which people can grab their cup of coffee and go on with theirdaily work.
- Starbucks experience changes fromDunkin in many ways. The main focus of Starbucks is to targetpeople who have higher income and have professional careers.
- They provide them a certain type ofcoffees and the target audience is between the age 18 years to 44years. It offers free Wi-Fi and most of the college students areseated in Starbucks and study. Starbucks offers a wide variety ofbread and sandwiches and small all sorts of desert. It also offersa health menu.
- Alternatively, the atmosphere ofDunkin is quite opposite to that of Starbucks. It offerssandwiches, muffins and wraps etc.
- The products provided by themdiffer in variety the price of Dunkin is less as compared toStarbucks. The price of small, medium and large in Dunkin is 1.39,1.69, 1.89 dollars respectively while in Starbucks it is 1.75,1.96and 2.07 dollars.

- In the ShopRite, as a product ofthe major thrive of the cooperative system, there has been no setof any format for the building architecture, store layout plans, orcolour scheme of the storefronts. Trader Joes was a competitor in”fresh format” in the grocery stores.
- The store is well aligned andformal pattern is the always visible the way the store operatesthrough 500+ stores.
